A place to discuss all your family woes and find support
W elcome to OhMyFamily
This community was created to provide a space for people to discuss issues with their families and to learn about how to deal with problem family members. As our lives change, so do our relationships and everyone has issues with their families from time to time. We are here to listen, offer sympathy and advice, and provide resources for various issues that can stem from family life.

Joining:
1. Our first concern is the privacy of our members, and membership is moderated. Most requests to join will be accepted, but there are a few exceptions. Your request will be rejected if:
-Your journal is less than a month old
-You are not active on your journal or in any communities
-You are related to any of our current members
If your request is rejected and you need this resource, send a PM to lexispice explaining why you need an exception and you'll be reconsidered.

2. Once you're accepted, you need to post an introduction here within a week. Then you can feel free to post and comment!

Posting:
1. All posts are moderated but should be approved as soon as possible. If your post isn't approved within 24 hours, feel free to PM lexispice.

2. Above all, please BE RESPECTFUL. Emotions can run high when it comes to our families. We are here to offer encouragement and advice, but remember that we are all at different places in life and we often don't see our situations as clearly as we see others'. If you are posting just to vent and you don't want any advice, just note it in your post and we'll offer encouragement without judgment.
If a post or comment rubs you the wrong way, consider your words before you respond. If someone is argumentative or breaking the rules, please contact the mod rather than engaging yourself. Anyone "feeding the flames" will be suspended for a week. Anyone posting about our community or another poster elsewhere will be banned.

2. Remember that every family is different. Please don't question people's situations, but take them at their word. Please don't assume that all families look or operate like yours does.

3. Strong language is fine and to be expected, but the following things will NOT be tolerated:
-Racist, sexist, homophobic, or ableist slurs
-Personal insults to other posters
"Your behavior in that situation was childish" is not a personal insult
"You are childish" is a personal insult

If you see any of these things going on, please don't engage, but do give me a heads up.

4. Please put the following things behind a cut:
-Posts more than a few paragraphs long
-Posts about traumatic events or other things that may be triggering to certain members. You DO NOT have to censor your discussions on any topic, but we do try to respect that not everyone wants to read them.
If you're asked to use a cut by another member, please do so and don't be offended. You can read about LJ cuts here.

5. OWN YOUR WORDS! Don't delete comments or posts and if you edit, please let us know why.
